Aims

There are three aims of this consortium. The first objective is to create a first and comprehensive website dedicated to the 5-HT7R (expression, pharmacology, physiology, involvement in human diseases, cell and animal models) (Figure 2). Data will be collected from public databases (PubMed, IUPHAR, human protein atlas, protein data bank, Espacenet,…) and when possible from private database such as global data. This would make it possible to consolidate and share a wide range of information on this receptor, available not only to academic researchers and clinicians but also to private companies. To date, evidence derived from animal models indicate that pharmacological manipulation of the 5-HT7R may have exceptionally high potential for the treatment of various disorders. One of the reasons this has not moved forward with confidence is because of conflicting results that stall decision making. A portion of the website will be to highlight carefully these discrepancies, then formulate hypotheses and propose new ways of research. In addition, the 5-HT7R website will increase the visibility of consortium members and their research on both the serotonin system and the 5-HT7R. The second objective is to host a meeting early in the 2nd year of the consortium that brings together these 5-HT7R researchers. The purpose of this meeting will be on sharing 5-HT7R science but also vetting and improving the information in the comprehensive website. In this way, this website belongs to all (an international effort), and would be something. The third aim will be to build a new collaborative scientific project on the pharmacology and therapeutic potential 5-HT7R allowing to get together the complementary skills of consortium’s members.
